- Only 4,000 tons of plastic waste are collected in Serbia on annual basis, while the capacities are up to 12 times bigger - said the Manager of company "Brzanplast" Rade Simić.

That company, settled in the vicinity of Batočina, deals with collecting and recycling of plastic waste. Last year, the company collected about 2,000 tons of plastic waste. The plan is that the quantity of collected waste in 2007 will be much bigger - said Simić, pointing out that up to 50,000 tons of plastic could be collected annually in Serbia.

According to his words, "Brzanplast" collects plastic packaging from about 50 suppliers in Serbia. The price ranges between 100 and 200 EUR per ton of compressed plastic packaging. Half of processed plastic waste is exported to the countries of former Yugoslavia.

Simić announced that the company planned to have the factory for processing of plastic waste and production of foils built and to invest 2.6m EUR in it, adding that 280,000 EUR were approved from the National Investment Project to "Brzanplast" for that project.

He says that one of the units in that factory will be put into operation in three months.
