Construction of Turkish hospital, Acibadem in Novi Beograd, starts – Clinic worth USD 100 mil

Turkish group, Acibadem, where patients from Serbia were sent for a heart surgery and for gamma and cyber knife on the expense of the insurance, will built a clinic on 25.000 square meters in Belgrade, Novosti report.

- We have been working on the project preparation for two years - Dobroslav Bojovic, the General Manager at Napred says for Novosti.- We will build the most modern clinic in this part of Europe in Novi Beograd. It will hire 1000 people. The construction will start by the end of the year. Basically, the contract has been defined. Some technical details are lef to be agreed. The project totals USD 100 mil.

It will be the seventeenth hospital in the Acibadem chain which has eight health centers as well. In one of them – Maslak, as of June 2010 until mid 2011, 200 patients from Serbia went to surgeries.

Now, at the expense of insurance, for specific indications, patients go to Istanbul for two kinds of surgeries – gamma knife, which costs EUR 6.000 per patient, and cyber knife which costs EUR 7.000. In three years time, with an instruction or at their own expense, 600 patients from Serbia went to the intervention.

In Acibadem, which has an office in Belgrade since last year, they work in line with the American standards, and their doctors are mainly educated or trained in USA.

None of our hospitals, neither when it comes to patients’ accommodation nor equipment, can compare to Acibadem. The Maslak hospital looks like a hotel. With all high technology, this chain, let’s say, has gamma knife perfection as well and is the fifth institution in the world which procured this device.

Acibadem, in fact, to a great extant, operates as a chain of tourist hospitals and has patients from 44 countries in the word. Prices in these hospitals are half the prices in the countries of the Western Europe where, let’s say, bypass surgery totals EUR 20.000-25.000.

Expansion towards the east

In Serbia, the hospital will be opened by the most recognized private health system in Turkey. As of 2012, Acibadem is a part of the global network - IZS. It is a joint venture of Malaysian Kazanaha, Japanese Mitsutija and Turkish Aydinlar family. The system comprises a network of hospitals and clinics in Malaysia, Singapore, India, China, BRUNEJ, under names and brands which also comprises the International Medicine University of Malaysia. As of July 2012, the international university of medicine was numbered at the exchange market in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore as the second in size company which deals with health in the world, having in mind market capitalization. IMU is planning to expand in Indochina, Southeast Asia as well as in the Balkans, ex Soviet countries and Middle East.
