The European Union has rejected a request filed by Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro to join the EU-wide roaming free zone, the directors of the Serbian and Macedonian telecommunications regulators, Milan Jankovic and Robert Ordanovski, confirmed Monday (28 April 2014) in Cavtat.

Speaking at the Telecom Arena 2014 regional conference, Jankovic recalled that a letter was sent to Brussels, with the support of the respective governments, but the reply said that such an initiative cannot be implemented.

The president of the Council of the Croatian Agency for Post and Electronic Communications (Hakom), Domagoj Jurjevic, stressed the need for defining a unique roaming fee in Europe, due to large discrepancies in tariffs from country to country.
