EU takes care of Great Backa Canal

Accompanied by his associates, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport has toured a Vrbas-based building site for the central wastewater treatment plant (CPPOV), whose purpose is to stop the polluting of Great Backa Canal, the most polluted water stream in Europe. The facility in Vrbas is the largest individual investment of the EU in the region, valued at over EUR 15 million.

CPPOV will be be processing municipal and industrial water that will be collected in the municipality of Vrbas and towns Kula and Crvenka, as well as water from households that are connected to the sewerage system.

Construction of this treatment plant is expected to be finished by the year's end, after which the cleaning and rehabilitation of Great Backa Canal would start.
