Belgrade gets mayor by May 23

Goran Vesic, the secretary of the Transient Council of the City of Belgrade, said yesterday that the capital city would get a mayor by May 23 at the latest.

- A legal period of 30 days for the appointment of mayor starts right after the first session of the City Assembly on April 23, when the speaker of the City Assembly, their deputy and secretary shall be appointed. This period expires May 23 - Vesic told Tanjug news agency.

He noted that aldermen had already received an invitation to attend the first session of the City Assembly, adding that he, as the secretary of the Transient Council, would have meetings with the representatives of political parties to agree all the details for the organization of aforementioned session.

Vesic reiterated that the new speaker, deputy speaker and secretary of the City Assembly would be named at a session on April 23, after which the process for appointing the mayor would start.
