New boulevard in Novi Sad – work to start in the summer

To carry out the project of building yet another city boulevard, the Public Enterprise for City Construction and Development is preparing to connect Bate Brkića street and the Futoška road in the Tozinovac district by the Satellite market. It has paid 123 million dinars from Novi Sad`s city budget to the owners of 14 plots that have now been booked as the public property of Novi Sad.
“Expropriation procedures are under way for 16 further plots whose owners can expect rapid payment. A smaller number of remaining plots that lie on the route of the future boulevard are being divided, a process carried out at the Republic Geodetic Institute. As soon as this is done they will also be booked as city property”, says Goran Višnjić, top man in the Enterprise for City Construction.
“In parallel with this, we are finalising the main projects for traffic, water and sewerage. As soon as they are ready we expect to receive the location permit and in the latter half of the year we`ll get to work” - Višnjić is optimistic.
Building the road in a continuation of Bate Brkića street is one of the most important investments in Novi Sad, but ZIG still can`t say precisely how much it will cost the taxpayer.
“The project is meaningful not only for the traffic, but far more important is starting the urbanisation of the previously industrial Satellite district that has lain neglected and derelict. The future boulevard will have water and sewerage infrastructure and the road will consist of a dual carriageway, each side with two three-metre wide lanes and a central island of two metres together with oblique parking. On each side of the road there are plans for two-metre-wide bicycle lanes and bus stops, and the junction between Bate Brkića street and Anđe Ranković will be a four-way crossroads. Access lanes and street lighting will be built and the area will finally be landscaped with greenery”, says Goran Višnjić, summarizing the project.
The project will not only improve the lives of citizens of Novi Sad but will in large measure pay for itself. There is already keen interest from developers to build high-rise residential property in what will soon be an attractive location, which means higher revenues for the city budget through fees and taxes.
