Labudovo Okno and Pešter Field under international protection

Areas Labudovo Okno (Swan's Shaft) and Pešter Field have been placed on the official list of wetlands of international importance, protected by the Ramsar Convention. This has been announced by the Nature Preservation Institute of Serbia.

The decision about broadening of the list has been made by the Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on January 19, 2007, on the basis of the studies for nomination of the Institute. Thus, the surface of six protected areas in Serbia reached 28,000 ha. In addition to the aforementioned two wetlands, the list of the Ramsar Convention contains the following areas: the Obed wetland, the Ludaš lake, Stari Begej-Carska Bara wetland and Slano Kopovo.
