NBS to soon form task force for Basel III implementation in Serbian banks

After successful implementation of European standards in local banks - Basel II, Serbia is now strategically prepared for the application of new standards in EU directives, so-called Basel III, it was said Tuesday at the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce.

At the round table "Banks' Readiness for Basel III Implementation in Serbia", Marija Randjelovic, the acting director of the Bank Supervision Department of the National Bank of Serbia, announced that NBS would soon form a task force for the implementation of Basel III standards in Serbia's banking sector.

She assessed that banks in Serbia had seriously grasped the concept of risk management.

Petar Stefanovic, a member of the BCC Board of the Association of Financial Organizations, noted that Serbia was one of the few countries in the region to support and apply European rules in its banking sector.
