A total of 2.8 million hectares of arable land is available for the forthcoming spring sowing in Serbia. Corn, the most common cereal grain, is expected to be planted on some 1.3 million hectares.
According to the estimates made by the expert services of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, sunflower will be planted on 200,000 hectares, soybean on 170,000 ha, sugar beet on 70,000 ha and spring wheat on 160,000 ha this year.
Tobacco will be planted on 7,000 hectares, vegetables on 370,000 ha, fodder crops on 390,000 ha, and all other plants on 70,000 hectares.
The area under corn will be 100,000 hectares bigger than last year.
