Finland is willing to invest in the generation of electrical power and heat from biomass in Srem, but before that it is necessary to prepare a detailed study on the potential for this production. This project will be managed the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities in cooperation with the Srem Regional Development Agency and all seven municipalities in Srem, while potential investments from Finland were discussed at the first meeting in Ruma.
Biomass could account for 70 percent of renewable sources of energy in Srem. However, this potential is rarely tapped into. Finland generates as much as 34 percent of power from biomass, ranking first in Europe in that regard.
The meeting in Ruma is the first step towards final implementation of this project that aims to make use of renewables, reduce pollution, create jobs, affect the economic growth and, indirectly, social community.
