Comprehensive waste management project for Belgrade under preparation - Implementation of EUR 230 million investment through PPP

Implementation of the EUR 230 million comprehensive waste management project in Belgrade may start by the year's end. Considering that the City of Belgrade does not have the required funds, this investment will be implemented through a public-private partnership, people at the Environmental Protection Secretariat of Belgrade told eKapija.
- We are now finishing the technical documentation for the complete system, and then the City of Belgrade will choose a way in which to implement this investment. It is possible that the city sanitation company Gradska cistoca will seek a private partner for this entire project or only some parts of it – Filip Abramovic, assistant to the secretary of the Environmental Protection Secretariat of Belgrade, said to eKapija.
According to our interlocutor, this investment will include the construction of several facilities, construction and rehabilitation of the existing landfill, construction of a new sanitary landfill, waste treatment plant, combined heat and power (CHP) plant, etc. Also, the plan is to build a building material recycling plant and to invest in the primary waste sorting and the construction of recycling yards and transfer stations in the city - said Abramovic.
People at the Environmental Protection Secretariat of Belgrade believe that this project could be implemented in 5 to 10 years.
