The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced in a release today that it was considering the approval of EUR 200 million credit line to the Deposit Insurance Agency of Serbia.

According to the release on the EBRD website (www.ebrd.com), this credit line will function as a stand-by insurance and it will provide the Deposit Insurance Agency with direct access to funds, if and when required. It is underlined that such facility is much more cost-effective than a loan.

The EBRD Executive Board is expected to decide on April 9th whether to grant that credit line.

The EBRD pointed out that the credit line would assist the DIA in the execution of its core mandate to enhance and sustain confidence in the banking sector through the management of the Deposit Insurance Fund.

It is also stated that the credit line will be fully guaranteed by the Serbian government.
