European Automobile Manufacturers' Association has announced that the January sales grew 5.5 percent to 935,640 cars.
However, they say it is a modest result after a six-year downward trend because the January 2014 sales figures are the second worst in the past ten years.
All major markets around the world are recovering: Great Britain, Spain and Germany have reported a growth of over seven percent, while Italy, which is just exiting recession, has had a growth of 3.2 percent.
Carlos da Silva, a representative of the analytical company IHS Automotive (IHS), stated that despite small values, the current trend foreshadowed the future car sales growth, adding that manufacturers should work on their recovery instead of only trying to survive as before.
