Ferrero wants to grow hazelnuts in Serbia

Ferrero plans to start producing hazelnuts in Serbia, and a Memorandum of Understanding between that company and the Republic of Serbia was signed Thursday in Belgrade by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Power Engineering Prof. Dr. Dragan Glamocic on behalf of the Serbian government and Ferrero Group Raw Material Purchasing Director Arduino Borgogno and representative William Fulci.

- This MoU with the Ferrero Group - a global leader in the confectionery industry, will make it possible for Serbia to become the European hub of hazelnut production within the next ten years - Minister Glamocic said in the Serbian government and stressed that "Serbia has been working hard to attract investments like this one from Ferrero."

- I must say that we are open to investments from all over the world - both from the east and the west - that will alow us to significantly improve agriculture in Serbia - the minister said and added that "the more successful we are in fighting corruption and implementing necessary reforms," the better our position to create an encouraging environment for investments like this one.

Minister Glamocic pointed out that Ferrero's investment was important for Serbia because it would enlarge the area covered with hazelnut trees from 1,000 to over 10,000 hectares by 2020 and enable individual agricultural hazelnut producers from central and south Serbia to establish cooperation with Ferrero and, thus, market their products and make profit easier.
