Electric Power Company of Serbia to buy Hydroelectric Power Plant "Višegrad"?

Hydropower potential of Serbia would be significantly increased if the idea of procurement of Hydroelectric Power Plant "Višegrad" on the Drina, the power of which is three generators of 315 MW, was implemented.

The General Manager of Electric Power Company of Serbia, Vladimir Đorđević, said that EPS had seriously taken into consideration not only procurement of Hydroelectric Power Plant "Višegrad", but also the completion of construction of Hydroelectric Power Plant "Buk Bijela" with REpublic of Srpska.

This power facility on the Drina near Srbinje has the power of 175 MW, with average annual production of 1.345 billion KWh of electric power. Since 1957, when the preparations for construction commenced, about 30m EUR have been spent on studies, elaborates and works on hydroenergy system "Buk Bijela".

EPS plans large investments into revitalization and reconstruction of machines and equipment in "Drinsko-limske hidroelektrane" in 2007.

- Total of 46m EUR will be spent on reconstruction of all four blocks of Hydroelectric Power Plant "Bajina Bašta", whereas the works on Hydroelectric Power Plant "Međuvršje" will cost 13m EUR - said Đorđević and added that the additional 17m EUR would be set aside for the construction of the fifths generator on Hydroelectric Power Plant "Bajina Bašta".

In that way, the capacity of this power plant will be increased from 360 to 420 MW.
