Serbs spend EUR 4.1 million on cigarettes per day

The number of smokers in Serbia has dropped by 7 percent over the past 10 years, but the data show that every second household in our country has at least one member who smokes.

As it was said at a press conference on January 31st, which is the National Day of Fight Against Tobacco Smoke, the data provided by the World Lung Foundation and the American Cancer Society indicate that the citiens of Serbia smoke the most cigarettes per capita.

People in Serbia spend EUR 4.1 million on cigarettes every day, these data show.

According to the stats published in the World Tobacco Atlas, a smoker from Serbia smokes 2,861 cigarettes a year, while those in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia smoke 2,261 and 1,621 cigarettes annually, respectively.

Topping the list of countries with the largest percentage of smokers are East Timor (61%), Indonesia (57%), Armenia (51.5%), Russia (51%) and Cyprus (48%).

The National Day of Fight Against Tobacco Smoke will this year be celebrated under the slogan "Cities without Tobacco Smoke".
