EUR 182 million earmarked for environmental project in Kolubara Mining Basin

Kolubara Mining Basin has announced an environmental protection improvement project in the Kolubara coal basin as the biggest environmental investment of the Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS) in the last few decades.
The aim is to ensure stable coal supply and reduce air pollution in power plants using lignite from the Kolubara coal basin.
This project will make it possible to equalize the quality of coal and boost the work efficiency of thermal power stations Nikola Tesla and Morava.
In that way, the emission of CO2 from the coal burning process in thermal power plants would drop by about 400,000 tonnes a year, while lignite consumption would be reduced by up to 1 million tonnes per year.
This EUR 182 million project will be financed with the proceeds of a EUR 80 million loan extended by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a 74 milion euro loan from the German Development Bank (KfW), while EUR 28 million will be provided by the EPS from its own resources.
