Construction of largest ship in Serbia in Belgrade's Shipyard - investment worth 25m EUR

The largest ever contracted ship in Serbia, worth 25m EUR and 123 meters long, is being built in Shipyard "Beograd". Its completion is expected in the second half of year 2007. The investor is Dutch company "Vahali Service and Marin" (www.vahali.nl), which previously founded company in Serbia (Vahali Ltd. Belgrade), employed 80 people and started production of parts for ships in the rented part of the Belgrade Shipyard.

The cargo ship will be equipped with the sail for navigation in windy weather. It has the capacity of 10,000 tons and it can transport700 containers. It is ordered by German company "Beluga shiping" (www.beluga-group.com).

On the occasion of this success, Minister of International Economic Relations, Milan Parivodić, expressed his discontent with the fact that Dutch company is not able, although it would like to broaden production, to build more than one ship at one time, because it could not obtain the banking guarantee on good realization of the job, so that it promised the support from the Government.

The curiosity related to this ship is that it will be the first commercial ship that will be equipped with the sails for navigation in windy weather, which enables fuel savings of up to 10%. The sail is similar to a parachute, it is as big as two football courts and the solution has been patented by the company that ordered the ship.
