Representatives of Russia's Centrgaz have met with the management of Serbian Railways to discuss the possibility of transporting 600,000 tonnes of pipes for South Stream gas pipeline by rail over the next 2.5 years.

As the two sides agreed at the meeting, the next round of talks will be held as early as mid-January 2014, when all technical and logistics details of that deal will be considered, Serbian Railways said in a release.

- The Serbian railway company is fully prepared to accept this job. It is big and serious, but Serbian Railways has both capacity and experience to do it successfully and efficiently. We have a sufficient number of locomotives and qualified workers, which will help us meet all the requests of the ordering party - said Negosav Teofilovic, the director of the Transportation Directorate of Serbian Railways.
