Reconstruction of National Theater in Subotica

Thorough reconstruction of the oldest theater in the country, National Theater in Subotica, should start in May, or in June 2005 at the latest. The theater is in very bad condition and its main stage is out of use because it is dilapidated. Main patrons are Republic of Serbia, Province of Vojvodina and the Municipality. Serbia and Vojvodina provide major part of the required investments, i.e. 45 % of the necessary money each. The first phase of reconstruction includes tearing down of present big theater hall and construction of new one with 450 seats, but without additional equipping. The second phase consists of reconstruction of the part of the theater that is facing city promenade where the offices are located. The third phase implies rehabilitation of front part of the building with recognizable pillars that are protected as cultural monument.
