Citibank opens office in Belgrade next week

American Citibank is going to open an office in Serbia next week.

The arrival of American banking giant is, most certainly, important news for our country, because it is one of the most respectable banks in the world with the highest rating.

- It is important for our country that Citibank comes - Governor of NBS, Radovan Jelašić, estimated. The first American bank in our country, according to the financial experts, should contribute to better offer of banking services.

Citibank is not going to collect means and work as a business bank. Its office will work on the making investments of the investment funds in Serbia easier. That is of special importance to our country, because there is a small number of companies, especially in field of agriculture, that can meet current crediting terms.

In the region, Citibank has the office only in Bucharest and Budapest. Therefore, its arrival to Serbia is a chance for Belgrade to become the headquarters of its regional positioning.

That American bank, as bankers remind, already got license for the opening of bank in Serbia on three occasions, but it never did it before. The bank got the first license in 1980's, the second in 1989 and the third at the end of 1990.
