Property tax in Belgrade to go up by 80 percent

The property tax in Belgrade will be increased by 80 percent next year, said Andreja Mladenovic, a member of the Temporary Body of Belgrade.
As Mladenovic claims, if the City Assembly adopted a proposal of the previous city management, that tax would be increased by more than 300 percent.
Mladenovic told the daily Politika that the change would hit the owners of big houses and apartments in so-called extrazone the hardest.
He explained that the city building land tax that the citizens of Serbia were paying as part of their Infostan bills would be abolished in 2014, adding that it would then be collected as part of the property tax.
Denial
Andreja Mladenovic today denied that he had announced an 80 percent increase in the property tax in the capital.
He told Beta news agency that his statement in an interview with the daily Politika was wrongly interpreted.
Also, the Democratic Party refuted the allegation that the previous city authorities planned to increase the property tax in Belgrade by over 300 percent.
