Representatives of French company Michelin, a part of which is Pirot-based Tigar, announced at Friday's meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic that they planned to expand production in Serbia.

Eric Faidy, the general manager of Michelin Southern Europe, said that the expansion of Tigar's production capacity would lead to the creation of about 500 new jobs, which would be very significant for Pirot and its surroundings.

Faidy notified the Serbian president of Michelin's plans to annually produce 20 million tires at Tigar.

- The only way for our contry to come out of the economic crisis is to improve the business environment and, thus, attract new and keep old investors. This would allow for economic development, a decrease in the unemployment rate, and the improvement of the living standard for all our citizens - said Nikolic.

Michelin bought Tigar Tire factory in 2005.
