The state does not want to lose control over strategically important companies. Although most of these companies are going to be privatized, Serbia is still determined to keep a controlling stake in them. According to Economy Minister Sasa Radulovic, the state is not going to sell its entire stake in RTB Bor and Telekom Srbija.
Putting a majority stake in Telekom Srbija up for sale does not mean that the state won't be able to keep a controlling stake in the national telecom firm.
- A majority stake is 50 percent of the outstanding stock plus one share - Nenad Gujanicic, director of the Department for Business Development at Wise Broker, explains.
- A controlling stake, on the other hand, means that the state can manage the company even when holding a smaller stake - he adds.
