If Facebook, Twitter and Instagram had existed when Leonardo Da Vinci was painting Mona Lisa or when Newton discovered gravity, what would have they posted on their profiles?

It seems that all the major events of our time, whether internationally important or intensely personal, are recorded on some sort of social media... But what would it have looked like if vital moments from the past had happened now and then been recorded on photo sharing service Instagram?

This is what a pair of artists, Gusto NYC and Gavin Alaoen, set out to create with their site Histagrams, and they've achieved some comical results.

On Histagrams, 'Einstein' boasts to his friends about his famous theory, 'Martin Luther King' turns to Instagram for some help with writer's block, a stone age man shows off his cave paintings, 'Leonardo Da Vinci' is keen to reward the mysterious Mona Lisa model with an online shout out and Charles Darwin appears to be taking part in Movember.
