Mercator S plans to invest between 13 and 15 million euros in Serbia in 2014, Stanka Pejanovic, the director of that trade company, said in Krusevac on Friday (8 November 2013).

She stressed that it was "a significant level of investment considering the current economic situation," adding that the exact amount of Mercator's investments would depend on projects and the speed of their implementation.

As she told the press, part of that money will be spent on the modernization of company's facilities because Mercator always strives to primarily meet the requirements of safe food storage and sales.

She added that Mercator S, member of Slovenia's Mercator Group, was among the biggest employers in Serbia with about 5,000 workers, pointing out that new investments always led to new jobs.

Handing over the 300,000th Pika card in Serbia to Ruzica Petrovic from Krusevac, Pejanovic reminded that Mercator S had opened EUR 16 million worth of Roda Centar market in Krusevac over a year earlier.

She also said that Mercator had issued in excess of 2m Pika cards to consumers across six countries where it operated, reiterating that that card existed in Serbia since 2005.
