The Managing Board of the Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS) made a decision on Tuesday (5 November 2013) to ink a contract for the second phase of the Kostolac B Thermal Power Station project, which calls for the construction of new power generation unit B3 in Kostolac and the expansion of Drmno coal mine, in which EUR 715.6 million will be invested.

The new power generation unit in Kostolac, with a capacity of 350 megawatts, should be connected to the grid by end-2019, and the plan is to boost the capacity of Drmno coal mine from 9 to 12 million tonnes of coal per year, EPS said in a release.

As it was explained by Dejan Trifunovic, assistant to the minister of energy, development and environmental protection of Serbia, the decision of the EPS Managing Board should soon be approved by the Serbian government, after which aforementioned contract should be signed.
