Nis Mayor Zoran Perisic said Wednesday that there was a possibility of establishing an air bridge between Nis and Belgrade with the launch of a morning flight from the Nis airport and an evening flight from the capital city.

- I've negotiated with Air Serbia, and there is a possibility of establishing an air bridge between Nis and Belgrade as of December 1st, for which we now await confirmation - Perisic told a press conference.

He stressed that he had had tough negotiations with Montenegro Airlines, which operates Nis-Podgorica flights, because Nis was currently unable to cover the costs of subsidies it was paying to maintain that service.

- Our debt to Montenegro Airlines is at about EUR 95,000 at the moment, whereas expenses for that service during the winter, when there are 12 passengers per flight on average, were sometimes at EUR 110,000 per month - said Perisic.

The mayor of Nis pointed out that he grasped the importance of the Nis airport, but he said that he also needed to take care of other things that were crucial to the normal functioning of the city when budget revenues were reduced.
