Vranje Mayor Zoran Antic said that he was optimistic about the outcome of negotiations with the Greek town and port of Kavala on the exchange of territories.

In that way, 3.5 hectares of land on the shore of the Egean Sea would become a permanent possession of the people of Vranje, while partners from Greece would get a land of the same size in Free Zone in Vranje in return.

Antic told Beta news agency that the agreement was very close, adding that its execution was expected to start as early as within the next year.

According to him, the idea about the "exchange of territories" between the two cities was first mentioned last year, during the visit of a delegation of the City of Vranje to Kavala, whose host was Kavala Mayor Konstantinos Simitis.

The City of Vranje and Kavala are sister cities, and the territory of Kavala is, traditionally, one of the most favorite destinations of the people of Vranje during summer.
