Russia's Tehnologija Metalov is interested in building a rail welding plant in Serbia to provide services to all railway companies in the region, Serbian Railways said in a release.
According to the release, representatives of the Russian company expressed this interest at a meeting with Serbian Railways Director General Dragoljub Simonovic in Belgrade.
Simonovic said that Serbian Railways cannot financially contribute to such project, but it can provide all the necessary assistance and support to the implementation of the idea because it was in the interest of the company and in line with the state policy to open new factories and create new jobs in Serbia.
According to Simonovic, an agreement with the Serbian government is also necessary for the implementation of this project.
It was pointed out at the meeting that the opening of a rail welding plant would contribute to the enhancement of quality of railway infrastructure in Serbia as well as to the reduction of costs of railroad maintenance.
About 450 kilometers of railroads in Serbia are about to be modernized using the proceeds of a Russian loan totaling USD 800 million.
Tehnologija Metalov also expressed interest in investing in the Disinfection Station in Lapovo, the release reads.
