Vranje Mayor Zoran Antic and Top Sofa Director Roberto Siviero signed an agreement on Tuesday on the allotment of a 6.8-hectare land in Bunusevac Industrial Zone to the Italian company for free.
Top Sofa is the Serbia-based subsidiary of the Italian leather furniture manufacturer Ditre Italia.
When signing the agreement, Antic stated that Vranje continued the trend of bringing foreign investors, primarily from Italy, reminding that a similar agreement had recently been signed with the Italian footwear manufacturer Geox as well.
Siviero said that the Italian company had been operating in Vranje since 2010, when it had started producing upholstered furniture in a rented space, adding that the company had 70 employees at the moment.
He also said that the plan for the first phase was to build a facility in Bunusevac Industrial Zone, that is, Vranje Free Zone, on an area of 10,000 square meters and then hire 400 people from the wood-processing industry.
The second phase will see the expansion of the facility by 20,000 square meters and the employment of another 200 workers.
