Due to economic crisis and the increasingly difficult life in Greece, stores in this country will be reselling expired products at discounted prices.
The Association of Businessmen of Athens has made a decision to allow food stores in Greece to resell expired products at much lower prices as of September 1st. This decision was made with the aim of helping the most endangered people in Athens, Tportal reports.
Stores will, thus, include a section labeled "expired products." Certain precautionary measures will definitely be taken in order not to endanger consumers in any way.
Depending on the product type, some foods will have their expiration period "extended" for up to three months, and it is assumed that this will apply only to the products that have the "best before" date and not those having the "use-by" date.
Stores that sell easily perishable foods will face high fines.
