Representatives of the mining company Codelco from Chile are interested in boosting the capacity of the new smelter that is under construction within the Mining and Smelter Basin (RTB) Bor, RTB Bor's spokesperson Gorica Toncev Vasilic said yesterday.

- The managers of these two companies have talked about possible increase in the capacity of the new smelter from projected 80,000 tonnes to 100-110 thousand tonnes of copper per year - said the spokesperson.

RTB Bor CEO Blagoje Spaskovski confirmed that Bor-based company was interested in boosting the capacity in that way, but he added that a final decision must be made by the Serbian government.

He explained that the capacity of the new smelter could be boosted if the projected quality of copper concentrate was increased from 22 to 26-28 percent.

- There is no other way to do this because all the equipment for the new smelter has already arrived in Bor - said Spaskovski.

By the way, Chile's Codelco is one of the most powerful mining companies in the world.
