Djerdj Matkovic, foreign policy adviser to Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, will become the ambassador of Serbia to the United Arab Emirates, Blic cited unofficial sources as saying. Serbia's embassy in Abu Dhabi should be opened in one month at most.
Serbia has got an official residence in the elite part of Abu Dhabi from the host to use it, and it should be mentioned that there is a large number of diplomatic and consular offices of other countries in its vicinity.
- The house was picked by the host, and Serbia will be paying the rent. Most of that money, about two thirds annually, will be refunded to us - Blic quotes a well-informed source as claiming.
The consul of Serbia has already gone to Abu Dhabi, and his task will be to carry out technical preparations - procurement of computers, installation of phone lines, and the establishment of initial diplomatic relations. This phase should take maximum one month to complete, after which Matkovic should join the consul in Abu Dhabi.
Serbia's new ambassador to the UAE will have a serious task to improve economic relations between the two countries. Aside from huge investments we expect from this country, the plan is also to centuple the trade that is currently on a neglectable level, Blic cites its interlocutor.
The Serbian government adopted a decision at its session few weeks ago to unilaterally abolish visa requirements for all UAE citizens.
