Serbian Finance and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said today that he had received a letter from Fiat Group Vice President Alfredo Altavilla in which that company expressed interest and intention to procure sheet metal from the Smederevo steel mill if that plant invested in a steel galvanizing line.

Dinkic told the press at the Fiat Automobili Srbija (FAS) factory that Fiat was interested in buying sheet metal in the future for the production of 500,000 cars a year, meaning that it would be buying sheet metal for all its factories worldwide.

- This is a chance for the Smederevo forge, but I am sure it is also an opportunity for all those interested in investing in a galvanizing line that currently does not exist in Smederevo. That steel must be of special quality, in line with Fiat standards, in order to be attractive - he noted.

Dinkic added that he had also spoken with FAS CEO Antonio Cesare Ferrara about the possibility of few more suppliers of car carts coming to Kragujevac in order to localize production as much as possible.

He also announced that the letter of intent and interest he had received from Altavilla would be forwarded to Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, the director of Zelezara Smederevo, and his "heir."
