Siemens today expressed interest in opening a regional repair center for locomotives in Serbia.
- Siemens is very interested in partaking in the railway infrastructure modernization project in Serbia that is financed with the proceeds of the Russian loan, especially when it comes to signalling and safety systems and catenary wires. Strategic partnership between this international company and the Russian railway company will surely contribute to all this - it was concluded at a meeting between Serbian Railways CEO Dragoljub Simonovic and the management of Siemens Serbia.
Siemens wants to build a regional repair center in Serbia for its locomotives, which would also be used by all railway companies in the region, as well as to renovate the railroad between Subotica and Bogojevo to allow for the transport of goods by rail for their factory.
- Modernization of Serbia's railway infrastructure will be one of the most significant investment projects in Serbia over the next 15 to 20 years, and it is definitely in our interest to have such a large company like Siemens engaged in these works - Simonovic pointed out.
Analyzing all suitable locations for a regional repair center for Siemens locomotives in Serbia, representatives of these two companies proposed Nis as a possible solution.
