Matijevic is planning to purchase land in Romania as well

Owner of Industry of meat, Matijevic, from Novi Sad, has said today he is planning to purchase agricultural land in Romania, apart from purchasing cooperatives in Croatia.

Matijevic said to Beta that he opted for land purchase in Romania and Croatia because a hectare in cheaper than in Serbia and the land is of the same or better quality.

- We are now going to Romania. There,a hectare costs EUR 5000. We are planning to buy as much as we can cultivate - he said and added that in Croatia, they asked EUR 8000 per hectare.

Matijevic said that in ten days he is expecting final agreement on purchase of two agricultural cooperatives with some 1.500 hectares, near Vukovar and Vinkovci. It would be an investment of some EUR 12 mi.

According to available data, the first businessman from Serbia is buying agricultural land in Croatia.

- In ten days, we will either agree or give up. Everything must be done without hidden flaws and without trials - he said ans added that he is discussing purchase of cooperatives with Croatian businessman, Enver Moralic.

Land purchase in Croatia would be connection with the European Union and a breakthrough at the European market, Matijevic said adding that they would set up the company in Croatia.

He said the plan is ti make a chain of shops in Croatia similar to Industry of Meat Matijevic has in Serbia.

- Purchase of cooperatives would be a springboard - Matijevic pointed out.

Petar Matijevic said that his company has 27.000 hectares of land in Serbia and that in Croatia it will grow the same plants.

He said Matijevic company had higher yields than in Croatia, adding that yield of wheat was 7,5 tons per hectare while Croatian companies had 5,5, and sugar beet yield was 70 tons per hectare, 20 tons higher than in Croatia.

- We developed the plan to details. We have good equipment, agronomy staff and we can produce cheaper than small producers - Matijevic stressed out.

According to website data, Industry of meat Matijevic, has some 2400 staff and an annual profit of RSD 20 billion.
