Nebojša Nedeljković, general director of Airport Beograd, announced that the works on completion of reconstruction of Terminal 2, which should be open before the beginning of the European Basketball Championship, September 2005, would be intensified in two weeks, at the latest. Well-known problem with reconstruction of Terminal 2 will, in that way, be solved. From the very beginning, the project was shaken by numerous doubts and accusations of corruption, inappropriateness of that investment, because existing terminal used to serve double more passengers some fifteen years ago. However, new management inherited that investment and it will certainly make better impression on those passengers who visit Serbia for the first time, as well as improve their comfort and serving speed.

At the start of the investment it was announced that the reconstruction would cost €18m. Some time later, that amount grew to €48m. Director Nedeljković announced that the rationalization of the project had been carried out for the sake of reduction of expenses to €30m. The management believes that the amount at the end will be closer to the starting one of €18m. European Investment Bank EIB finances works with €8m, while Airport Beograd provides additional €10m from its own sources. The contractor is Consortium made of domestic company Kolubara and Italian Montagna.

Airport Beograd will also complete the project for reconstruction of runway, and, at the end of September, the category 3B will be introduced and it will enable landings and takeoffs in all weather conditions. Along with the reconstruction of the runway, sewerage and wastewater drainage will also be rehabilitated.

New, modern, transparent aerial bridges, which will replace 6 old ones, will be installed at the "C" passage, the one that serves for foreign, mainly remote destinations.
