Qatar to invest USD 200 billion in preparations for 2022 World Cup

Deloitte consulting and financial company has said in a report that Qatar, a country rich in oil, plans to spend USD 200 billion over the next decade on preparations for the 2022 World Cup to be held in that country.

The report reads that USD 140 billion of that amount will be invested in transportation infrastructure, including a new airport, roads and a metro, to get the country prepared for the 400,000 fans expected to visit Qatar during the month-long tournament.

Also, as Associated Press has reported, another USD 20 billion will be spent on tourism infrastructure to make it possible for Qatar to handle the expected 3.7 million tourists annually by 2022.

Qatar was awarded the World Cup in December 2010, beating out the United States, Australia, Japan and South Korea.

This decision by FIFA came as a bit of surprise considering the summer heat in the desert country.
