"Mercedes-Benz" caravan on marathon trip from Paris to Peking

The caravan of 33 "Mercedes-Benz" vehicles of E-class with diesel engines started the marathon trip from Paris to Peking on October 21, 2006.

Each vehicle will pass 13,600 km during this trip. "Mercedes-Benz" will use this automobile marathon to present the capabilities of the latest generation of pure diesel engines with the care for exhaust gases and consupmtion even in the most extreme conditions.

Itinerary of this trip follows the path of the first automobile race in the history in which drivers had to pass through continents. That race was held in 1907 and its start was in Paris and the finish line was in Peking.

During five phases of the trip, 330 drivers from 35 countries will pass total of over 450,000 km in the models of the new generation of "Mercedes-Benz" E-class and they will pass through nine countries in 26 days.

The fleet of vehicles of the new generation of E-class consists of 33 standard models of E-class equipped with pure diesel engines. Some of them are equipped with "4MATIC", the four-wheel drive. As an addition to 30 models E 320 CDI, three E-class vehicles are equipped with "BLUETEC" technology.
