Turkish household appliance manufacturer Beko plans to open a factory in Nis, Elektronska Industrija (EI) Nis Director Aleksandar Popovic told the local daily newspaper Juzne Vesti.
As Popovic said, this was the first time Beko representatives had visited Nis, which was an occasion to present them EI Nis as a so-called brownfield investment.
- They are interested in having a factory built in Nis. Therefore, we showed them the EI Cegar production facility, a part of EI Nis. They were also introduced to the capabilities of EI Nis - said Director Popovic.
After touring an empty space in Ivana Milutinovica Street, Turks were also the guests of the Regional Chamber of Commerce.
- There they talked about prospective suppliers with which they can potentially do business - Popovic explained.
Popovic stressed this was only the first visit with further talks to follow, primarily with Minister Mladjan Dinkic on subventions. After the visit, the Turkish delegation will communicate their impressions to their strategic department, which should be followed by appraisals and evaluations, explained the director of EI Nis.
- It is a time-consuming process. There will also be the second and the third and the fourth visit. Of course, it is necessary for each of them to be successful - said Popovic.
He noted that the investors from Turkey had been told by the government officials that the factory should be built in Nis because of a tradition as well as qualified manpower.
Beko is part of a large Turkish company called Arcelik. The company positioned itself as a top manufacturer of household appliances in the 1990s by entering the markets of Great Britain and Ireland.
Beko currently exports its products to about hundred countries worldwide.
