There has been some progress lately in the long-announced construction of the first ever shopping center in Zemun called IBC, which will be built by Novosadski Put Road, in a business zone behind a Metro wholesale center and an OMV gas station. Dredges and other heavy machinery are now being used to level the terrain and remove excessive soil to allow for foundations to be laid for the new retail park.
Work on this facility was supposed to commence in June 2012 and be completed by the end of this month. The new deadline for its completion has not been set yet, but thanks to a EUR 13.5 million loan extended by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to Israeli companies Jerusalem Economy LTD and Industrial Buildings Corporation LTD, it is most likely that the first phase of the retail park comprising a net lease area of 15,300 square meters and 385 parking places will be finished very soon.
Aside from a large range of goods in 60 retail outlets, a mega market, and a completely redesigned look of this part of the city, the investor also promises new jobs for people living in Zemun.
