(Milos Milosevic, Vincent Degert and Dusan Mrakic)
Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia Vincent Degert, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection Dusan Mrakic, Sabac Mayor Milos Milosevic, and Sremska Mitrovica Mayor Branislav Nedimovic paid a visit on Wednesday (5 June 2013) to the newly built facility of the Sabac-based transfer station and Srem-Macva Regional Landfill, and ceremoniously announced they would be put in operation.
Underlining the value of this project, which is a result of regional cooperation between the cities of Sabac and Sremska Mitrovica, Vincent Degert said:
- The value of the construction of this sanitary regional landfill totals EUR 6.32 million with EUR 5.02 million donated by the EU through the Municipal Infrastructure Support Program (MISP), EUR 1 million contributed by the cities, and EUR 300,000 provided through the former Eco Fund of the Ministry of Environmental Protection. This project has made possible the construction of one of the largest regional landfills in Vojvodina and the Macva Region, which will ensure environment-friendly disposal of waste for over 200,000 citizens. Also, a solid waste management plant will positively affect the biodiversity of the Sava River Area. Sabac will also soon get a wastewater treatment plant, which is now under construction thanks to the EU MISP Program.
