NIS's new method discoveres gas wells in Banat

By applying new drilling technology, the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) discovered small gas reservoirs in the Banat region, which will contribute to gas production increase, the company announced.

A new method of drilling of wells with small diameter (slim HOLE) has been used for the first time to these areas for oil and gas exploration purposes and the project has been done in the NIS scientific-technical center.

So far, two wells of small diameter in Vojvodina, near Melenci, at Zrenjanin were drilled, which confirmed researchers’ expectations.

The exploration of one well proved the existence of two smaller gas reservoirs. In the second well, three small gas reservoirs have also been discovered and are currently undergoing exploration stage.

By using the slim hole technology, by the end of 2016, NIS is planning to open a total of 25 wells.

Four wells have currently been defined for drilling, except from the two existing ones.

Geops Balkan drilling services Ltd. which has experience and all necessary equipment for the project implementationstarted, started drilling works for NIS began last year. NIS Oil services, i.e. Hidrosonda has recently joined the implementation.

Last year, within the development of innovation and scientific and technical activities concept, NIS started the implementation of the research project of small oil and gas wells by drilling small holes. This method will enable NIS to discover small oil and gas wells in an easier, i.e. faster and considerably cheaper way,

In addition to economic effects, this method is featured by environmental aspect as well, since drilling these wells takes up far less land area and it reduces the amount of drilled material used in the drilling process.
