Italian Mondello interested in building Belgrade bypass motorway


Serbia's Ministry of Transport announced on Friday (May 17, 2013) that the Italian company Mondello is interested in the construction of the Belgrade bypass motorway on Corridor 1.
As stated in the press release, the company has received from Sicily the project documents on the basis of which it should decide whether to apply for a job at the end of the Belgrade bypass motorway, the only section of the Corridor 10 which is not financially covered.
The project totals EUR 330 mil and the Italians could fund half of the sum, the amount necessary to complete the bypass with the most modern traffic equipment, the announcement stated.
Representatives of the Italian construction company and the Minister of Transport, Milutin Mirkonjic agreed at a meeting held on Friday, possible funding models of the traffic artery, whose end will completely relieve traffic in Belgrade.
Convenience for the Italian company to participate in the business is the fact that Serbia and Italy have excellent economic relations, and that interstate agreement offers various options for providing funds, from the agreement between the governments to withdrawal of commercial loans.
Half of the money out of EUR 300 million for the completion of the Belgrade bypass motorway will be invested in providing the most modern equipment.
It has been agreed that technical procedure ends in two weeks, when the representatives of the company will pay another visit to the Ministry and potentially include some other companies from Sicily with good references in the project.
