The Embassy of Japan has started building a diplomatic and consular office in New Belgrade, which should be completed by end-2014.

As people at the Embassy told Tanjug news agency, the new facility will be situated in Tresnjin Cvet Street, and will span about 4,250 square meters.

Yun Eguchi, the first secretary of the Japanese embassy, said that they had had a plan more than 20 years earlier to have a new embassy building built, but that project had been postponed due to objective circumstances in Serbia.

He could not specify the value of the building as the whole project is divided into several phases, and now only the first phase has begun.

The contractor is Tobishima Corporation, and the subcontractor is Neimar-V a.d.
