Electronic Industry Niš – to become industrial zone?

The Head of the Administrative Board of Electronic Industry Niš, Miroljub Jovanović, announced that the space of that company might be turned into the industrial zone, because it was possible to use the existing infrastructure.

Jovanović said that there was no need for making the zone on barren land when EI had complete infrastructure and water and electricity. Besides, "Jugorosgas" wants to connect that area to the gas system.

The Head of the Administrative Board reminded that everybody waited for the completion of restructuring of Holding corporation, which started on July 3, 2006. He stated that the restructuring concerned only the holding company, whereas all dependent companies in EI would be privatized. There are 102 companies in Niš-based EI corporation.

Electronic Industry is settled on the area of about 60 ha. It has 23 substations and mini heating plant. EI used to employ 20,000 workers, whereas today that factory has somewhat over 3,000 employees.
