Banks in Serbia turned RSD 8.4 billion profits last year, whereas the profits of the entire financial sector were at RSD 11.4 billion. This is a signal that banks have returned to the profitability zone after achieving negative business results in 2011, Ruzica Stamenkovic from the Business Registers Agency announced Wednesday.

The profits of five banks account for 75.5 percent of the total profit made by the banking sector, and these banks are Banca Intesa, Raiffeisen, UniCredit, Komercijalna and AIK Banka, she told a press conference.

On the other hand, three banks - Razvojna banka Vojvodine (Development Bank of Vojvodina - RBV), NLB and Alfa Banka, made the losses that account for 75 percent of all losses made by the banking sector last year.

Stamenkovic also noted that banks in Serbia had laid off 1,905 workers in 2012.
