WindVision and Synvalor to build biomass power plant in Senta - First phase valued at EUR 15.2 million

A project to build a cogeneration plant powered by biomass, which will serve the needs of remote heating system in Senta and produce green electricity, has been presented in the Town Hall of Senta. This presentation was attended by State Secretary of the Energy Ministry Dejan Novakovic, Dominik Kuhling, consul in the Embassy of the Netherlands to Belgrade, and the representatives of companies from Belgium and the Netherlands, WindVision and Synvalor, respectively, which should implement this investment using a cutting-edge technology in line with EU standards.

State Secretary for Energy Novakovic has pointed out that the Serbian government supports all investments in the energy sector, adding that it has backed over 250 projects in this field since the beginning of its mandate by establishing a new energy policy in order to achieve the goal set by the EU that the electricity generated from renewables accounts for 27 percent of all electric energy produced in the country.

The most favorable solution to the problem of energy source for remote heating system has been offered by the WindVision company from Belgium, which has suggested that biomass should be used. Representatives of these companies from Belgium and the Netherlands have announced that the first phase of the biomass power plant construction project should be completed by 1 October 2014.

The first phase of the biomass power plant construction is valued at EUR 15.2 million, and it would secure 8.4 megawatts of heat and 4.9 megawatts of electricity, whereas the second phase should be completed in 2015/2016. The required quantity of 35,000 tonnes of biomass per year would be provided from agricultural manufacturers in neighboring municipalities.
