Russia agrees to import small batch of Fiat vehicles from Serbia free of duties

Russian president Vladimir Putin has vowed to ensure the exemption from import duties of limited shipments of Fiat cars assembled by the Italian company's joint venture with Serbia, Belgrade-based media reported on Thursday, quoting Serbian prime minister Ivica Dacic.

Dacic winds up on Thursday a two-day official visit to Moscow.

In case an agreement to this end is reached, the Italian company would be allowed to export duty-free an initial batch of 10,000 Fiat 500Ls assembled by Fiat Automobili Srbije (FAS) at its factory in the central Serbian town of Kragujevac, news portal Tanjugbiz.rs reported, quoting Dacic.

As a reciprocal measure, Russia would be allowed to export to Serbia duty-free vehicles produced by its domestic auto makers, SeeNews reports.

FAS, founded in 2008, is 67%-owned by Fiat with the Serbian state controlling the remainder.
